Series for bank SSC and RRB

The Reasoning section of every competitive exam includes questions from the topic “Series”. This topic is considered to be quiet important and every year a good number of questions are asked onthis topic. We are providing you with Tricks to solve problems related to Series related Questions in Reasoning which will surely help you in the exams.

Series is a sequential order of letters, numbers or both arranged in such a way that each term in the series is obtained according to some specific rules. These rules can be based on mathematical operations, place of letters in alphabetical order etc.

Different types of questions covered in this chapter as follows

Number Series

Letter Series

Alpha-Numeric Series

Continuous Pattern Series

The candidates are required to identify the pattern involved in the formation of series and accordingly find the missing term to complete the series. Also, there may be some questions where one of the terms in the series is incorrect and the candidate is required to find out that term of the series by identifying the pattern involved in the formation of series.

There is no set pattern and each question may follow a different pattern or sequential arrangement of letters or digits, which you have to detect using your common sense and reasoning ability.

On the basis of various types of questions that are asked in competitive exams, we have classified series into several types as follows.

Number Series

Number series is a logical sequence of more than one element made of arithmetical digits. Logical sequence means that each element or term in a number series is obtained according to a certain rule or pattern. These series can be formed by applying various methods/ patterns.

Let us see the following number series 2, 4, 6, 8, 10,……

When we see the above series, we notice that each element is 2 more than its previous element. Thus, we can say that each element of the above-mentionedseries is obtained following a rule.

i.e., Previous element + 2= Next element

There are no set rules. In each case, you have to discover the pattern adopted. There can be the omission of letters/ digits in an order, there can also be alternative order, such as first one letter/ digit is skipped, then two, then three and so on.

In various competitive exams, the questions based on number series are asked in two different patterns. On this basis, we have classified number series into following two types

Inserting the Missing Number

In such types of questions, series of numbers is given with one number/term missing from its place. The candidate is required to recognize the pattern involved in the formation of series and find the missing number accordingly.

Various different patterns are involved in the formation of series. Now, let us discuss some most common pattern to the previous element to obtain the next element.

Same Number Addition Series

In this type of series, the difference between two consecutive elements is same i.e., each time same digit/ number are added to the previous element to obtain the next element.

(b) 21

(c) 19

(d) 24

Same Number Subtraction Series

In this type of series, each time the same/number is subtracted from the previous element to obtain the next element and thus in such series, the difference between the two consecutive elements is same.

Physical Geography of India (Himalayas, Northern Plains)

Physical Geography of India (Himalayas, Northern Plains) India has vast diversity in physical features. This diversity of landmass is the result of the large landmass of India formed during different geological periods and also due to various geological and geomorphological process that took place in the crust. According to Plate Tectonic theory folding, faulting and volcanic activity are the major processes involved in the creation of physical features of Indian landscape. For example, the formation of the Himalayas in the north of the country attributed to the convergence of Gondwana land with the Eurasian plate. The Northern part of the country has a vast expanse of rugged topography consisting of a series of mountain ranges with varied peaks, beautiful valleys and deep gorges. The Southern part of the country consists of stable table land with highly dissected plateaus, denuded rocks and developed series of scarps. The Great Northern Plains lies between these two landscape...

Many of the SSC & Railway exams are about to begin and Coding-Decoding is considered as an important topic in Exams. Below given are some essential tips & tricks to solve coding-decoding questions. These tips will help you score more in the upcoming exams. The  CODING-DECODING  test is given to judge the candidate's ability to decipher the rule which is applied for coding a particular message and break the code to reveal the message. Coding and Decoding forms a dedicated part of the Reasoning Section in various competitive exams but the level of questions differs in them. In order to have a clear insight into the questions on Coding-Decoding, it is better to discuss each type of questions separately. What is the approach to solving the questions of this section? Observe alphabets or numbers given in the code keenly. Find the sequence it follows whether it is ascending or descending. Detect the rule in which the alphabets/numbers/words follow. ...
